Sweat Shops bad.....but necessary?

I feel as if sweat shops have a lot of cons but also has a it's set of pros. The biggest disadvantage of having sweat shops is that it's detrimental to the workers health being exposed to all the fumes. Another disadvantage would be how factories and unclean working conditions also have on the environment itself.

Advantages of having sweat shops are providing more jobs for developing countries and cheaper production costs resulting in cheaper costs for consumers to goods. Majority of people who choose to work in sweat shops are the farmers who go from making 25 Cents a day to around 4 dollars a day by working in a factory. This cheap production also affects consumers because if these goods were made in USA for example not everyone would work for 4 dollars a day so the owners of these manufacturing companies would charge more in order to make a profit.

Realistically and unfortunately I don't think I would spend less or more even if I knew about how and where these products were made. :(

  1. Very true, there are pros and cons. You made some good points. I know I wouldn't work for $4 a day! Everything is way too expensive here in America!

  2. You may take this as a rhetorical question. Have you ever thought of government putting extra fees and taxes on imported goods and giving tax breaks to the local U.S manufacturers? This could be a way/solution to encourage companies to bring back the business to the U.S, while the workers are getting paid their regular salary...
